Participation in the Global Coalition for Digital Security at the World Economic Forum
LABSUL participates as an Expert Advisor to the Global Coalition for Digital Security at the World Economic Forum, through researcher Gustavo Silveira Borges, which is a public-private platform for global multi-stakeholder cooperation to develop innovations and promote collaborations that address harmful content and conduct online.
The World Economic Forum’s Global Coalition for Digital Security brings together a diverse group of leaders to accelerate public-private cooperation to address harmful online content and conduct.
Defining and building the Metaverse
Member of LABSUL participates, within this project, in Defining and Building the Metaverse (defining and building the Metaverse), which has two lines of action: (1) Governance of the Metaverse and; (2) Creation of Economic and Social Value.
Participation occurs in the Metaverse Governance action track, a working group where members come together to recommend possible governance structures for an interoperable, secure, and inclusive metaverse. This implies harmonizing regulation and innovation to develop interoperability, preserving privacy, security, and user protection. Before producing white papers on metaverse governance, they provide feedback on upcoming deliverables, including white papers on interoperability, privacy, security, and identity.
Interoperability in the Metaverse
Based on the work developed in the Metaverse Governance action track and meetings, the first report entitled “Interoperability in the Metaverse” was published on January 18, 2023, with important messages about the opportunities and challenges of metaverse interoperability. This document, written in collaboration with Accenture, focuses on creating governance structures that empower stakeholders to lead responsibly within the Metaverse, mitigating potential harm.
Interoperability in the Metaverse can present enormous opportunities and value for experimentation, development, and frictionless economies. To achieve this frictionless state, good interoperability across the metaverse system must consider privacy, security, and safety concerns. Given the borderless nature of the Metaverse, multisectoral and multilateral collaboration will be required to reach a consensus on design choices, best practices, standards, and management activities. To enable responsible metaverse interoperability, stakeholders must consider technical, usage, and jurisdictional aspects.
