LABSUL participates as an Expert Advisor to the Global Coalition for Digital Security at the World Economic Forum through researcher Gustavo Silveira Borges, a public-private platform for global cooperation with various stakeholders to develop innovations and promote collaborations that deal with content and conduct harmful online.
The World Economic Forum’s Global Coalition for Digital Security brings together diverse leaders to accelerate public-private cooperation to address harmful online content and conduct.
Defining and building the Metaverse
Member of LABSUL participates, within this project, in Defining and Building Metaverse, which has two lines of action: (1) Governance of the Metaverse and; (2) Creation of Economic and Social Value.
Participation in the Metaverse Governance action track, a working group where members gather to recommend possible governance structures for an interoperable, secure, and inclusive metaverse. This implies harmonizing regulation and innovation to develop interoperability, preserving privacy, security, and user protection. Before producing white papers on metaverse governance, they provide feedback on upcoming deliverables, including white papers on interoperability, privacy, security, and identity.
Privacy and Security
Based on the works developed in the Governança do Metaverso action track, the “Privacy and Security” report was published on July 17, 2023.
The second report is a technically grounded and globally applicable resource that explores privacy and security protections for individuals in the metaverse. This includes risks during metaverse integration, considerations during metaverse environments, and a particular segment highlighting children’s safety. This report examines potential unintended consequences and presents tradeoffs for companies and policymakers to consider when making decisions.
The metaverse, a dynamic and interconnected digital realm, has immense potential to reshape the way we live, work and interact.
As the convergence of augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR) blurs the boundaries between physical and (semi) virtual spaces, it becomes imperative to address privacy and security issues to ensure a safe and inclusive metaverse for all participants. This document serves as a catalyst for stakeholders, promoting dialogue and action in navigating the complexities of privacy and security in this mixed world.
This report emphasizes the importance of designing human-centered experiences prioritizing privacy and security.
